Around 15 fish processing and export centres have been destroyed from the natural disaster, said the ministry of fisheries and aquatic resources.
Deputy minister Rathna Gamage inspected several of these facilities located in Seeduwa.
Owners told him that disruptions to power supply have rendered their cold storage facilities inactive, and fish processing centres going under about six feet of water were in a state of ruin.
Gamage promptly instructed the CEB and LECO to restore power supply to the cold storage facilities, since fish exports to EU nations bring considerable foreign exchange to the island.
