Major e-commerce retailers like AliExpress and Temu have reduced their shipment frequency to Sri Lanka from daily deliveries to just three times a week, following changes to Customs duty regulations, Sri Lanka Customs officials revealed at a recent parliamentary hearing.

Speaking before the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) on Tuesday (29), Customs representatives said that the backlog of e-commerce shipments previously held up at Customs was cleared by mid-July.

Officials explained that Chinese-based e-commerce platforms altered their logistics strategies, cutting down shipments from daily volumes of 4–5 tonnes to less frequent consignments to mitigate increased costs imposed by the new duty structure.
