Govt. decision on spice imports slammed

The Planters’ Association has found fault with a government decision to allow a handful of companies to import spices under a new regulatory mechanism.

The measure will adversely affect the local market, and also adulterated value-added products could get exported, damaging the country’s reputation globally, it said.

The association said India was keeping a close watch following the issuance of import licences recently, with a delay likely in the clearance of the shipments, it said.

The association urged the policymakers to pay swift attention to the matter.
