Potato and onion import taxes soar

The Ministry of Finance has announced a significant hike in the Special Commodity Levy on imported potatoes and big onions, effective from 26 August 2025 for three months.

The levy on imported potatoes has increased from Rs. 60 to Rs. 80 per kilogram, while the duty on imported big onions has surged fivefold, rising from Rs. 10 to Rs. 50 per kilogram.
