A major technical failure has brought operations at the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to a near-complete standstill, severely affecting company registrations and related services.

The disruption follows the expiry of a key data system contract on May 31, after which the RoC’s digital infrastructure reportedly began to falter.

The situation worsened on July 12, when the system experienced a full collapse, leaving services offline for nearly a week.

Sources within the department say efforts to restore functionality are ongoing, with the RoC’s IT team receiving assistance from the Sri Lanka Army.

However, the system remains only partially operational, causing continued delays.

Officials estimate daily losses exceeding Rs. 3 million due to the outage, as businesses are unable to register new entities or access essential documentation.

Long queues and frustrated visitors have become a common sight at the RoC headquarters in recent weeks.
