Sri Lanka’s apparel exports to the United Kingdom dropped 11.9% in October compared with the same month last year, the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) said.

Overall, Sri Lanka’s total apparel and made-up articles exports recorded a slight decline of 0.05% in October 2025 compared with October 2024.

Shipments to the United States and other markets fell by 1.92% and 9.84% respectively, while exports to the European Union rose 12.53% during the month.

For the period from January to October, total apparel exports increased 6.12% year-on-year.

Exports to the U.S. grew 1.37%, while EU shipments recorded a strong 14.05% rise. Exports to the UK and other destinations posted modest gains of 0.98% and 8.31%, respectively, over the same period.

“Sri Lanka’s apparel sector continues to hold steady despite challenging global conditions,” the JAAF said in a statement.

“The strong growth in EU markets and the positive cumulative performance reflect the industry’s resilience, ongoing investments in competitiveness, and our commitment to meeting the needs of international buyers. Sustained market diversification and consistent policy support will be essential as we work to build on this momentum in the months ahead,” it added.
