Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala said that all salaries and allowances of ministers and members of the National Peoples’ Power would be deposited into a state bank account in Boralesgamuwa, and those funds will be utilized for public service.
He mentioned that this procedure has been in practice since Nihal Galappaththi was appointed as the first MP of the Janatha Vimuthi Peramuna.
Highlighting that vehicles won’t be imported for MPs, he said that the government would not grant them duty-free vehicle permits either.
However, he said the government is creating a conducive environment for all MPs to serve the people.
Noting that the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ program aims to transform the way people think, Watagala said the program will be activated from the first day of February, and awareness activities related to this have already commenced.
