The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is presently investigating alleged preferential treatment for MP Namal Rajapaksa when he sat for the Law College examination 11 years ago.
Anidda.lk quoted police media spokesman K.B. Manatunga as saying a statement would be issued once the probe is completed.
The investigation is pursuant to a complaint lodged by head of the citizen’s movement against fraud, corruption, and wastage Jamuni Kamantha Thushara.
It alleges Rajapaksa sat for the exam in a special air-conditioned room, where he was assisted by two lawyers.
The complainant says eyewitness accounts are available to prove the allegation, but that the witness was presently out of the country due to threats to his life.
If proven guilty, Rajapaksa should be expelled from the bar, said Thushara.
When minister Wasantha Samarasinghe raised the matter in parliament, Rajapaksa denied the allegations against him.
He challenged the minister to resign if he is unable to prove the charges, adding that he himself would leave politics if found to be guilty.
