The ruling National People’s Power (NPP) stands accused of having offered Rs. eight million to an independent member to gain control of Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha.

The member, Kasun Jayasinghe, told the media that a government minister came to his home and sought his support.

I was offered the money per division as well as candidacy to contest for the provincial council, said Munasinghe.

The money offer was raised, with a second round of talks having taken place in Colombo, according to him.

Munasinghe said he cannot be bought over, and that he had already decided to support the SJB.

He is tipped to be named chairman of the Matugama PS.
