Ravi calls for revocation of MPs pensions

Former minister Ravi Karunanayake said that he will submit a proposal to the parliament to revoke the pensions issued to Members of Parliament (MP).

Accordingly, he will present a private members’ motion titled ‘Abolishing the Pension Scheme of the Members of Parliament of Sri Lanka’ on Friday (7).

He expressed these views at a media conference held in Colombo.

“Those guys (NPP) came to power saying they will forgo their salaries and pensions. We should utilize these opportunities and do the right thing. MPs do their job for five years. We cannot do anything else. Do not seek income here. If you have to, then do not come into politics. I think all 225 MPs will support this. Also, I think there should be a group of people who can do what they say on the political stage,” he said.

Karunanayake also added that the government should open up vehicle imports through an economic policy that can generate revenue without devaluing the rupee.
