Rehan Jayawickreme, a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Weligama organizer, has announced his resignation from both his party membership and organizational role, stating divergence in vision and personal priorities such as family ansd business commitments as the reason.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party’s General Secretary, Ranjith Maddumabandara, Jayawickreme stated that his decision stems from a growing disconnect between his ideals and the party’s direction. Additionally, he highlighted the impact of consecutive electoral defeats and the need to focus on his family and business commitments.

Reflecting on his contributions to the party, Rehan Jayawickreme underscored the service he has done to the party, including facing disciplinary actions from the United National Party for his early support of SJB leader Sajith Premadasa in 2019. He noted his financial support to the Matara district and his unwavering commitment to uplifting the Weligama community.

“This decision, while difficult, is one I believe is necessary to realign my priorities,” he wrote, asserting that his resignation is final.

Rehan Jayawickreme expressed gratitude to the SJB leadership for the opportunities provided during his tenure and emphasized that his principles remain unchanged despite his departure.
