Chairman of the United National Party (UNP) Wajira Abeywardena addressed the media on October 10, highlighting a rising public call for political unity in Sri Lanka.
“Over the past four to five months, the public has increasingly expressed the opinion that all political parties should come together,” Abeywardena said, adding that the opposition parties in Parliament have responded positively to this sentiment.
He said that the UNP’s management and working committees will review the issue and express their views.
“This was also reflected in the theme of our party’s anniversary,” he noted.
Abeywardena also announced plans for a major rally in Nugegoda next month, which is expected to bring various parties together and demonstrate the UNP’s commitment to fostering political collaboration.
