The United National Party (UNP) has decided to invite all opposition party leaders to its upcoming annual convention, scheduled for 6 September.

A preparatory discussion was held yesterday morning (31), where the proposal was finalised.

It is expected to be formally submitted to the party’s Working Committee on 3 September.

Furthermore, the UNP has agreed to lift the suspension of former members, treating them as having voluntarily left the party. This proposal will also be tabled at the Working Committee meeting.

To accommodate wider participation, the party has opted to host the convention at a neutral venue instead of its traditional headquarters at Sirikotha.

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to personally extend invitations to opposition leaders in the coming days.
