An envoy from a major Western nation reportedly paid a visit to Prof. Maithree Wickramasinghe, wife of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting, which took place at the Wickremesinghe residence, was described by sources as cordial and conducted in an empathetic manner.
Although details of the discussion have not been disclosed, sources familiar with the matter characterized the ambassador’s approach as understanding and respectful.
The visit comes at a particularly sensitive time, as former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who served as Sri Lanka’s eighth president from 2022 to 2024, was arrested and remanded over allegations of misusing state funds.
The former first lady has maintained a low public profile since her husband left office earlier this year following Sri Lanka’s presidential transition.
Neither the relevant embassy nor representatives of the Wickremesinghe family were immediately available for official comment regarding the diplomatic engagement.
