The government has admitted in parliament yesterday (3) that a chief executive officer (CEO) is yet to be appointed to the national carrier – SriLankan Airlines.

Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku told parliament that around 200 applications have been received for the post of CEO of SriLankan Airlines and that the number of applicants has been shortlisted to 75.

Kodithuwakku made this observation in parliament in response to a question posed by opposition member of parliament (MP) Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.

Dassanayake, who raised the question on the national carrier, also noted that the application sent by former CEO of Papua New Guinea national airline has been rejected by the government, but that the reason for the rejection was unclear.
