A Cabinet reshuffle is expected to take place within the next two weeks, increasing the number of ministers from 23 to 25, government sources reveal.

The upcoming reshuffle is expected to see the inclusion of a Muslim Cabinet minister, intended to remedy the current underrepresentation of the Muslim community in the Cabinet.

Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih and State Minister Munir Mulaffer are among the leading contenders for the ministerial position, according to government insiders.

In addition to the new appointments, discussions are underway regarding changes in ministerial portfolios.

Officials say the minister currently responsible for defence-related duties may be assigned a different portfolio.

Furthermore, the possibility of appointing another new Cabinet minister is also being considered, although no final decision has been reached.

Sources say that the reshuffle will adhere to the National People’s Power (NPP) election pledge to limit the Cabinet size to 25 members.
