Two senior political figures have expressed support for the possible return of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to Parliament, citing his experience and statesmanship as assets at a time of national uncertainty.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said Wickremesinghe’s re-entry into parliamentary politics would be “very good” for the country.

“He has served as President, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader. That kind of experience is rare and valuable,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Premanath C. Dolawatta said that if someone like Ranil is in Parliament, we can prevent the country from collapsing.

Wickremesinghe, who stepped down last year after serving as Sri Lanka’s 8th Executive President, has not publicly indicated any intention to return to active politics.
