A group of former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) politicians is preparing to launch a formal movement demanding the return of salaries and allowances they claim were withheld by the party during their time in office.
Speaking to the media, Retired MPs’ Collective Secretary and former JVP parliamentarian Pemasiri Manage said he has filed a request under Sri Lanka’s Right to Information Act seeking details of all payments made to him during his tenure in Parliament from 2004 to 2010.
“None of that money ever came to me. It was all taken by the JVP,” he said.
Manage further claimed that the same applied to his time as a member of a Pradeshiya Sabha and later a Provincial Council.
He said several other former JVP representatives had come forward with similar complaints and are preparing to join the new movement.
He described the practice as unofficial and enforced through internal pressure by senior figures in the party, rather than formal policy.
“If anyone refused to hand over their salaries, they were pressured until they complied,” Manage alleged.
He claimed he served nearly six years as a Member of Parliament, during which he earned approximately Rs. 250,000 per month in salary and allowances, all of which were redirected into the party’s fund.
“Throughout my political career, I never received a rupee of my own earnings,” he said.
