The budget of the Hikkaduwa Urban Council, controlled by the ruling National People’s Power (NPP), was defeated for a third time on Thursday after failing to secure a majority vote.

The council met under the chairmanship of Yasaswin Godakanda to consider the latest budget proposal.

During the vote, nine council members supported the budget while 10 voted against it, defeating the proposal by a single vote.
