A group of local councilors from the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) is expected to support the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) nominee for Mayor of Colombo at the upcoming inaugural sitting of the Colombo Municipal Council, SJB MP Mujibur Rahman said.

Addressing the media, Rahman said that some NPP members have decided to back the SJB’s candidate, citing the nominee’s extensive administrative experience and deep understanding of the issues affecting the residents of Colombo.

He further revealed that the SJB’s nominee has served continuously in the Colombo Municipal Council for over 20 years, earning a reputation for effective governance and familiarity with the city’s challenges.

The election of the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor is set to take place during the inaugural sitting of the newly elected Council on June 16.
