SJB alleges irregularities in budget votes at Negombo and Horana councils

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) parliamentarians have accused National People’s Power (NPP) council members of procedural irregularities during recent budget approvals in Negombo and Horana.

SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardena said the Negombo Municipal Council budget was declared passed without a formal vote, despite objections from opposition councillors.

He alleged that the mayor acted arbitrarily, anticipating opposition votes against the proposal.

Meanwhile, SJB Horana Organiser Charith Abeysinghe claimed similar misconduct occurred at the Horana Urban Council.

He alleged that amended budget proposals were tabled just minutes before the vote and procedural timings were manipulated, effectively preventing opposition councillors from casting their votes.
