SJB to bring no-confidence motion against Deputy Defence Minister

The Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) has announced its intention to bring a no-confidence motion against Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara.

The decision was taken during an SJB parliamentary group meeting held yesterday (04), chaired by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

An SJB parliamentarian said that Jayasekara’s appointment is seen as a potential conflict of interest, given his previous role as Eastern Province Commander during the time of the bombings.

The MP claimed that his current position could hinder the integrity of ongoing investigations.

The no-confidence motion is expected to address a range of concerns beyond his role during the Easter attacks.

Premadasa is scheduled to meet with opposition party leaders tomorrow (06) in an effort to build cross party support.
