The United National Party (UNP) says it has decided to continue working in cooperation with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and other opposition parties, following consensus reached during earlier discussions.

UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardena said the party is now exploring the establishment of a formal committee or mechanism to coordinate joint efforts on national issues with the SJB and like-minded political groups.

Abeywardena noted that the UNP has been engaged in sustained dialogue with opposition parties in recent months, focusing on shared policy concerns and the need for collective action.

“The issues on which we reached agreement during initial discussions will now be carried forward in a structured and consistent manner,” he said, emphasising the party’s intent to work “openly and collaboratively” with the SJB.
