Lahiru Achintha strikes gold for Sri Lanka at Asian Youth Games 2025

Sri Lanka’s rising middle-distance star Lahiru Achintha produced a stunning run to claim the gold medal in the Boys’ 1500m at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain on Thursday (23).

Achintha clocked an impressive 3 minutes and 57.42 seconds, outpacing a strong field of regional competitors to secure Sri Lanka’s first athletics gold of the competition.

In the Girls’ 1500m final, fellow Sri Lankan Nethmi Gimhani also made her mark, winning the bronze medal with a determined effort that saw her finish in 4 minutes and 52.32 seconds.
