President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called for the full utilisation of funds allocated to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, as he reviewed the 2025 budget and discussed proposals for 2026.

During a high-level meeting this week, the President stressed the need to foster a national sports culture, improve infrastructure, and identify young talent through a modern, technology-integrated approach.

He ordered the immediate renovation of key facilities, including the Sugathadasa Stadium, and placed particular emphasis on developing school-level sports programmes.

Officials were instructed to submit a comprehensive, integrated national sports development plan in the coming weeks.
