Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Roshan Mahanama has stepped down from his position at the National Sports Council (NSC).

Mahanama, who was appointed to the Council for the 2025–2028 term by a letter dated 14 February 2025 and officially accepted the role on 20 February 2025, announced his resignation citing personal reasons.

“As I clearly stated in my acceptance letter, my continuation in this role would always be dependent on the progress of the National Sports Council. I firmly believe that by holding such a position, I must work for the good of sport and contribute meaningfully towards the Council’s objectives,” he said.

He further stressed that his resignation should not be seen as a lack of commitment to the development of sports in Sri Lanka, adding that he remains ready to support and assist the sporting community in other ways.
