Royal College, Colombo and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa were declared joint champions in the Under-19 Division One Tier A – 2 Day Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament 2024/25, after the final ended in a rare first-innings tie at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

The title decider, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and sponsored by Sri Lanka Cricket, saw both teams posting identical first-innings scores of 201, forcing the championship to be shared as per tournament regulations.

Batting first, Royal were dismissed for 201 in 87.2 overs. In reply, St. Sebastian’s also managed 201, albeit in 97.5 overs — a testament to the tightly contested nature of the match.

On the final day, Royal showcased resilience, reaching 252 for 9 in 93.4 overs at close of play.

Skipper Rehan Pieris led from the front with a composed 65 at the top of the order, forging a 107-run opening stand with Hirun Liyanarachchi, who contributed 47.

Middle-order efforts from Dushen Udawela (46) and Ranuka Malaviarachchi (28 not out)* helped Royal build a solid second-innings platform.

St. Sebastian’s bowler Malintha Silva was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 5 for 56 in the second innings to finish with a match haul of 9 wickets.
