Yevan Ranasinghe David has redefined Sri Lanka’s presence on the global motorsport map, becoming the first-ever Sri Lankan to win the Euroformula Open Rookie Championship and secure second place overall in the 2025 Euroformula Open Championship.
The 18-year-old rounded off his stellar debut campaign with a thrilling victory in Race 3 and a second-place finish in Round 2 at Monza — the final stop on the Euroformula calendar. With the overall title already clinched by Tymek Kucharczyk and BVM Racing on Saturday, Sunday’s race was all about pride and performance. And David delivered.
Driving for Motopark, David claimed his sixth win of the season, matching Kucharczyk’s total and outperforming his highly rated teammates Everett Stak and Michael Shin. Despite not taking the overall title, David’s combination of speed, consistency, and sharp racecraft made him a standout figure in the 2025 field.
“It’s a great way to end the championship, despite the final result not being the one I hoped for,” said a reflective but upbeat David. “Still, I’m very happy about a perfectly executed race today and this season, which has really helped me develop as a driver. A massive thanks to Motopark — it’s been a pleasure working with them and driving this car.”
David’s remarkable year also featured a strong showing in the F3-level series, where he made an immediate impact with two wins and a podium during a guest appearance in the final round of the 2024 season.
Now, in a landmark announcement for Sri Lankan motorsport, David has signed with AIX Racing to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2026, making him Sri Lanka’s first driver to enter FIA F3 — a crucial stepping stone on the road to Formula 1.
The Colombo-born driver’s path to the international spotlight has been nothing short of determined. His 2024 campaign saw him contest the Eurocup-3, Spanish F4, and UAE F4 Championships, gaining crucial experience in his first full season of single-seater racing. Prior to that, his karting resume included a silver medal at the FIA Motorsport Games, as well as appearances in the WSK Champions Cup, FIA World Cup for KZ2, and a top-six finish in the FIA Karting Academy Trophy.
With AIX Racing also announcing Emmo Fittipaldi for their Formula 2 programme, David’s inclusion in the F3 squad signals a strong push by the team to invest in emerging global talent.
