Sri Lanka’s rising table tennis prodigy, Taavi Samaraweera, has achieved a milestone that has rewritten the nation’s sporting record books, climbing to World No. 3 in the latest Under-11 Boys’ World Table Tennis Rankings issued by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
In the ITTF rankings released this week, the young student of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, made an extraordinary leap of 52 places to claim third position with 200 ranking points — the highest-ever global ranking attained by a Sri Lankan table tennis player in any age group.
Samaraweera now sits just behind Uganda’s Joseph Sebatindira and Qatar’s Rabeah Al-Kuwari, both occupying the top two spots.
