The Attorney General’s Department has wrapped up investigations into nearly 600 criminal cases during the first five months of 2025, marking a significant acceleration in the pace of legal proceedings.

These cases, covering a range of serious offenses, are now being prepared for legal proceedings. A large number have already been forwarded to the High Courts, with formal indictments filed and trial processes initiated.

Reports say that these indictments include former ministers Namal Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, Ravi Karunanayake, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, cricketer Sachithra Senanayake and many prominent known drug traffickers.

The swift handling of such a high volume of cases signals an intensified effort to accelerate justice and reduce delays in the criminal justice system.
