Alleged violation of election laws: Video surfaces of Govt MP holding meeting during silent period

A video circulating on social media has sparked controversy, allegedly showing a government Member of Parliament organising a political meeting during the legally mandated election silence period.

The incident is said to have taken place at the Karapincha Estate in the Ratnapura district on Monday (05).

The footage appears to show a large gathering of people assembled for what is believed to be an election-related event, despite the enforcement of the silence period, which prohibits any form of campaigning or political meetings ahead of the vote.

According to reports, the MP was seen at the venue but quickly left or attempted to conceal his presence after noticing that someone was recording the event on video.

The clip also captures the cab in which the MP allegedly arrived, further fuelling speculation about his direct involvement in the gathering.
