The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (29) issued an arrest warrant against National People’s Power (NPP) Jagath Manuwarna for failing to appear in connection with two long-pending court cases filed in 2008.

When the cases were taken up before Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara, counsel representing Manuwarna informed court that his client was unable to attend the proceedings as he was participating in a national land deeds distribution ceremony.

However, the Magistrate noted that Manuwarna had previously failed to appear before court citing ill health and observed that he had once again deliberately absented himself despite being aware that the cases were scheduled for hearing today.

The court ruled that there was no reasonable justification for the MP’s continued non-appearance and accordingly issued a warrant for his arrest.
