Ayurveda medical officers threaten nationwide strike

Government ayurveda medical officers have issued a warning of a countrywide agitation and potential strike unless their additional service allowance, introduced earlier this year, is promptly reinstated.

The Joint Committee of Government Ayurveda Medical Officers’ Trade Unions revealed that the allowance, which was implemented in 2024, was suddenly withdrawn without explanation.

Dr. Chamal R. Kulathilaka, a committee member, said that multiple requests to engage in talks with the Minister of Health have been ignored.

He slammed the government for denying their union the same dialogue opportunities extended to other trade unions, describing their exclusion as a lack of respect and recognition.
