Building projects with Chinese aid at 13 hospitals get delayed

The construction of buildings at 13 state hospitals with 85 million US dollars of Chinese aid has got delayed due to various reasons, said the Health Ministry.

Under the project, the supply of medical and other equipment to more hospitals is being done as well.

Started in 2019 and due to end by 2026, building constructions are taking place at hospitals in Darga Town, Mirigama, Aluthgama, Samanthurai, Eravur, Pottuvil, Kalpitiya, Rikillagaskada, Medirigiriya, Padaviya, Walasmulla, Mahiyangana and Kalawana.

In response to an inquiry under right to information, the ministry has cited foreign bank action in line with the interim policy on foreign debt repayments, coronavirus pandemic, shortage of raw material, global shipping issues, import restrictions, fuel and electricity issue as reasons for the delay.
