The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union (CEBEU) has announced an escalation of its trade union action in protest against the government’s plan to restructure the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) into four separate entities.
Speaking to reporters, CEBEU Executive Committee Member Dhanushka Parakramasinghe said that the initial “work-to-rule” phase of the union’s campaign concluded on Monday, and that a second phase of action begins today (16).
While essential services will remain unaffected, Parakramasinghe stated that engineers would withdraw from selected administrative functions, including participation in tender committees, as part of the escalation.
He also revealed that employees will report sick in two groups on Tuesday (17) and Thursday (18), during which a protest will be held to voice opposition to the government’s restructuring plans.
“The public will not be inconvenienced. These actions are structured to make our position clear while keeping the authorities informed,” Parakramasinghe said.
