MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake has referred the circumstances leading to the expulsion of Ananda Wijepala, the present public security minister, from the police.
Dassanayake told the House that the minister had claimed the killing of Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Lasantha Wickramasekara to be an act by the underworld.
The MP said Wijiepala joined the police in 1988 as a sub inspector, but was expelled during training on the basis of intelligence and CID reports.
The reason for his expulsion is that he had been a leader in an armed wing, or a terrorist, Dassanayake charged.
People of Galgamuwa, Ambanpola and Kurunegala know about his past well, although those elsewhere may be unaware of it, added the MP.
