Close friend blasts president over November Heroes speech

UK-based journalist Uvindu Kurukulasuriya has described president Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s speech at the JVP’s November Heroes Day as a weak and foolish one.

Said to be a close friend of the president, Kurukulasuriya said in a social media post that it was just like his budget speech, neither analytical of the party founded by Rohana Wijeweera.

He didn’t describe to the new generation the party’s politics from 1978 to 1988-89, or address the Gen Z generation.

The president spoke only for the party members, which he could easily have done with the doors closed and without cameras, said Kurukulasuriya.

Had he been thinking about doing politics in the future, he should have given a speech suited for a party leader and the head of state, asking that his 2023 speech be compared with it.
