A contract killer involved in the shooting of Aruna Vidanagamage, known as Kajja, and his two children in Middeniya was arrested by police on March 5.

Investigations have revealed that the murder was carried out for a contract worth Rs. 500,000, with Rs. 250,000 transferred to the killer’s wife’s bank account from Dubai by an individual identified as Backhoe Saman.

Eight suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the killings, and only the individual who rode the motorcycle used in the crime remains at large, police said.

The motorcycle, used in the assassination, was discovered concealed in a quarry in the Middeniya area by police on March 5.

The murders took place on the night of February 18, when Kajja and his two children were travelling by motorcycle. The hired assassins, who had been following them, opened fire, killing all three before fleeing the scene.

Police have confirmed that the arrested contract killer has no connection to the military. Further inquiries are underway into his suspected involvement in other criminal activities.

The investigation is being led by Senior DIG for the Southern Province, Kithsiri Jayalath, and Matara DIG Nishantha Soysa.
