The Ministry of Health has so far failed to properly manage the highest budgetary allocation made for the health sector, as claimed by president Anura Kumara Dissanayake, said Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, chief of Doctors for Medical and Civil Rights.
The situation has aggravated further since the present regime took over, losing faith due to shortages of medicines and equipment, he said.
The dearth of medicines has worsened at the Colombo National Hospital and other leading hospitals, and laboratory tests to determine sudden heart attacks are suspended, he said.
Angiograms and MRI scans too, have been affected similarly, said Dr. Sanjeewa.
With doctors and other health professionals facing legal issues, brain drain among doctors could rise again, he warned.
