Close to 1,000 schools across the country were damaged in the disaster caused by Cyclone Ditwa, education officials said, as authorities work to assess the full extent of the destruction.
A senior spokesperson for the Ministry of Education said official data detailing the scale and cost of the damage will be released soon.
Early reports indicate that both school buildings and learning materials suffered significant losses.
UNICEF said the severe weather affected an estimated 275,000 children nationwide, leaving many without access to classrooms or basic educational resources.
In several disaster-hit regions, students lost textbooks and other school equipment in the flooding.
Authorities said numerous school buildings sustained heavy structural damage, with some facilities rendered unusable until repairs are completed.
The widespread destruction has posed challenges for reopening schools and restoring normal learning conditions.
The Ministry of Education plans to begin the extended new school term on December 16.
