Workers at Stockholm estate in Norwood, displaced by the Ditwah cyclone and presently sheltered at Bharatipuram Tamil Vidyalaya, staged a protest in front of their factory yesterday (17).

The estate management and the divisional secretary had evacuated 307 members of 50 families following earth slip warnings.

On the previously day, the divisional secretary told them to leave the temporary camp, after officials of the National Building Research Organization visited the estate and found no threats existed any longer.

The workers said their houses, located above Maskeli Oya, have developed cracks and are in danger of collapse.

They requested the president to intervene and grant them land from the estate to build houses.

The workers said they would not leave the temporary camp until that is done.
