The Secretary of the Electricity Consumers’ Union, Sanjeewa Dhammika, has lodged a written complaint with the Public Utilities Commission, stating that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has disconnected the electricity supply to his residence, claiming that the bill had not been duly paid, despite not issuing him a printed electricity bill.

According to Dhammika, the disconnection took place at his residence in Kotadeniyawa, Divulapitiya. He noted that he had informed both the Public Utilities Commission and the regional CEB office in Divulapitiya in writing, requesting a printed electricity bill.

However, no such bill was provided, and the power was disconnected regardless. In his complaint, Dhammika called for an immediate investigation into the matter.

He further pointed out that the Public Utilities Commission has already issued guidelines instructing that printed bills be provided to electricity consumers who request them in writing.

He stressed that despite this directive, the power to his home was cut without any prior notice or proper procedure, and called again for a prompt investigation into the incident.

Expressing his views on the matter, Sanjeewa Dhammika said: “What I want to highlight is that these officials are not complying with the guidelines issued by the Public Utilities Commission. Even though I made a written request for a printed bill, they disconnected my electricity without providing one. This must be immediately investigated.”
