Family injured in collision involving President’s Secretary’s vehicle

Four members of the same family, including two young children, were hospitalised following a road accident involving the official vehicle of President’s Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake in Thalangama on Saturday night.

The incident took place along the Pelawatte–Akuregoda Road near the Sri Lanka Air Force Camp, when the vehicle carrying Dr. Kumanayake’s wife and driven by his official chauffeur collided head-on with a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

According to Thalangama Police, four individuals, a mother, father, and their two children aged 2 and 6, were travelling on the motorcycle at the time.

They were initially rushed to the National Hospital in Colombo.

The mother and children were later transferred to Lady Ridgeway Hospital for further treatment.

Police arrested the driver of the President’s Secretary’s vehicle following the incident.

He was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court and subsequently released on bail.

The court also ordered the payment of Rs. 35,000 in compensation to the injured family.
