Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe requires urgent heart surgery, the Deputy Director of Colombo National Hospital Dr. Rukshan Bellana said.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Bellana said that while the preferred option is for the surgery to be carried out at the National Hospital, Wickremesinghe has the option to undergo the procedure at a private facility due to his bail status.
“He is currently experiencing complications related to his heart, including a blockage in a coronary artery and weakening of the heart muscle. Given the National Hospital’s waiting list, which can extend up to three years, he may choose private treatment to have the surgery sooner,” Dr. Bellana said.
The former president’s office said yesterday (26) that he will continue to receive treatment at the National Hospital over the coming days.
