The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a full-scale probe into alleged false claims made by Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila regarding President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s recent official visit to Germany.

The investigation follows a formal complaint lodged by the Presidential Secretariat after Gammanpila publicly accused the President of meeting with LTTE leaders during the visit.

The allegation was made at a media briefing, drawing strong criticism from government sources.

CID sources confirmed that Gammanpila is expected to be summoned for questioning in the coming days as part of the investigation.

President Dissanayake’s visit to Germany was undertaken on the invitation of the German government, and officials have described the trip as a diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The CID is now examining whether Gammanpila’s remarks constitute a deliberate attempt to mislead the public or incite unrest, with legal action likely depending on the outcome of the inquiry.
