The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has issued a stern warning to the Ministry of Health, threatening to launch an island-wide strike if long-standing transfer-related issues affecting doctors are not resolved by 8:00 a.m. on August 11.

Speaking to the media, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya said the union has allowed ample time for the Ministry to act, but delays have persisted without a clear resolution.

“If there is no proper intervention from the Ministry of Health to address the issues related to the transfer lists, the Central Committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association has decided to go for a countrywide strike demanding a solution to this problem,” he said.
