The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that the country’s public health system is facing shortages of more than 150 essential medicines.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the GMOA said Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa had been informed of the crisis but no remedial action had been taken so far.
Meanwhile, GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa called for an immediate inquiry into whether the shortages were being allowed to worsen to justify the government’s emergency procurement of medicines.
