Several essential online government services across Sri Lanka were disrupted today due to a technical issue affecting the Lanka Government Cloud (LGC), the centralised digital infrastructure that supports numerous government institutions.
The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) confirmed that services impacted include the Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificate System of the Registrar General’s Department, the e-Revenue License System (eRL 2.0) used by provincial Departments of Motor Traffic (excluding the Western Province), the Police Clearance System, and the Country of Origin Certificate Issuance Online System operated by the Department of Commerce.
Other services affected by the outage include the Department of Pensions’ Pension System, the e-Local Government System, and a number of government websites, such as those of the Department of Meteorology, Registrar of Companies, and the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board.
ICTA engineers, together with the Lanka Government Cloud service provider, are currently working to resolve the issue and restore the affected systems as soon as possible. In the meantime, the Registrar General’s Department has advised the public that certificates can be obtained manually from the relevant Divisional Secretariat offices.
All relevant government departments, including the Police, have been kept informed of progress in rectifying the problem. ICTA has stated that restoring LGC services is being treated with the highest priority.
The agency further explained that capacity and operational challenges that contributed to the outage are being addressed through the ongoing expansion project of the Lanka Government Cloud, which commenced in October 2025.
ICTA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to both the public and government institutions reliant on the LGC, assuring that every effort is being made to fully restore online government services at the earliest possible time.
