The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced plans to import 2,000 cabs to tackle a persistent shortage of vehicles across government departments.

Minister Dr. Chandana Abeyratne revealed that several state institutions have not received new vehicles for nearly 15 years, severely hampering the work of officials, especially those engaged in field operations.

The decision follows a directive from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who ordered a comprehensive review of logistical challenges within the public sector.

Dr. Abeyratne added that priority will be given to addressing vehicle shortages at Divisional Secretariat offices, aiming to enhance efficiency and service delivery in these vital administrative units.
