Presenting the budget 2026 in Parliament on Friday (07), President Dissanayake said the government has decided to purchase vehicles and machinery for state institutions and parliamentarians directly, with all assets to be returned to the state at the end of their respective tenures.

“The government has decided to buy vehicles and machinery for state institutions and members of parliament on the basis of them being returned to the state upon completing the tenure,” the President told Parliament.

A total of Rs. 12,500 million has been allocated for the procurement of double cabs, which will serve as the new official vehicles for MPs.

The President also said that these vehicles will be fully insured.
